Layer: Zip Codes (ID: 7)

Name: Zip Codes

Display Field: ZIPCODE

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: The GIS zip code layer consists of polygons that are based on U.S. Postal Service (USPS) zip code boundaries. The GIS zip code layer is for inside County use only because the information is Skagit County’s best guess on zip codes, and may be outdated. The reason it is best-guest is because the USPS currently provides information only by individual addresses, not by zip code region. Therefore, the GIS zip code layer is updated upon discovery of zip code inconsistencies on individual properties. The U.S. Postal Service is the authoritative source for zip codes, and therefore the best way to find out the city and zip is to ask the Post Office, or go to their zip code lookup tool online at usps.com. The USPS does not currently provide a layer or map of zip code boundaries.
